Patch 4.2. Are you ready to take the heat?

By admin in : Cataclysm // Jun 16 2011

I’m not sure what it is I am ablaze for in the upcoming Firelands Patch. Smoldering hot summer evenings of wiping on newly released fiery and temperamental raid bosses? Mkay. Another whooping set of ever so exciting dailies? Mkay² – please do notice my inflammable enthusiasm. Well, I think it’s a tight draw between being able to use every expression and metaphor of fire on in the upcoming months, or the fact we have all received a new /rawr! Hells yes! Because believe it or not, after announcing we can once again /dance in combat and set the dancefloor on fire, Blizzard has now also confirmed we all receive a brand new sound for the roar emote. Oh, and we will be able to summon an alliance/horde balloon. No shit, fun has just been unnerfed !

When is Patch 4.2?

It looks like the patch will be deployed on June 21st, with the new arena season starting
the week after.

Smoking hot changes for 4.2!

  • New Daily Quests:

Over 60 new quests were created for the Regrowth and Molten Front daily questing areas, where players can help the Guardians of Hyjal push back the allies of Ragnaros and establish a forward operating base in the Firelands. But they won’t all be available at once. Instead, a lot of quests will be randomized into smaller groups available from one cluster of NPCs. You can unlock both sets of dailies with a little time and effort. Once everything is unlocked, you’ll be able to pick up 17-18 quests in total from the new daily hubs.

  • New User Interface Feature: Dungeon Journal

A host of dungeon information is now built into the user interface via the all-new Dungeon Journal. This feature can be accessed via a new button in the Navigation tray from anywhere in the world. Boss background story, encounter details, abilities, and loot can be viewed with the Dungeon Journal for all bosses which have been  integrated into the new system (this includes bosses for all Cataclysm dungeons and raids). Additional dungeons are planned to be incorporated in future updates.

  • New raid: The Firelands

Located within the Elemental Plane, the Firelands is an all-new 10- and 25-player raid featuring normal and Heroic difficulties! Ragnaros the Firelord and his loyal servants will challenge us to a whole new level – or so they say. A good looking tier 12 set -completely inspired on and in tune with the atmosphere of the Firelands- and a new legendary caster item “Dragonwrath”, are definitely something to look forward to.

  • New boss in Baradin Hold

Occu’thar has broken free from his cage in Tol Barad and needs to be taught a lesson or two.

Cool, glad we got the general part out of our systems. And now onto what REALLY matters: resto dudu changes! A lot of love for our furball allies, but not as much excitement in the resto department.

Resto druids in 4.2

I’m surprised we haven’t been burnt down to the stumps. Usually, such a thing occurs every time I realize that I have actually enjoyed topping the ehps meters by a mile using my arsenal of healing spells in the latest content. Just about the same time I consider to be fully up to date with a new play style in a new expansion. But alas, not this time. We don’t have a lot of changes that will make us resto’s shiver our timber.

General druid changes

  • All healing critical strikes now heal for 2 times a normal heal (+100%), up from 1.5 times a normal heal (+50%).
  • Buffs: Mark of the Wild buff no longer generate any threat. This goes for all raid-wide buffs, as well as triggered effects which don’t directly cause healing or damage.
  • Many crowd control abilities no longer cause creatures to attack players when they are cast. The creature will not attack the player when the crowd control wears off, and nearby creatures will not become hostile to the player either unless they are in close proximity range.
  • Entangling Roots and Nature’s Grasp no longer deal damage.
  • Innervate now grants an ally target 5% of his or her maximum mana over 10 seconds, but still grants 20% of the druid’s maximum mana over 10 seconds when self-cast. Glyph of Innervate now causes the druid to gain 10% of his or her maximum mana over 10 seconds when Innervate is used on a friendly target, in addition to Innervate’s base effect.
  • Omen of Clarity clearcasting buff from now lasts 15 seconds, up from 8 seconds.

Symbiosis (Mastery) has been removed and replaced with Harmony. Harmony increases direct healing by an additional 10%, and casting direct healing spells grants an additional 10% bonus to periodic healing for 10 seconds. Each point of mastery increases each bonus by an additional 1.25%.

A tip or two

  • All existing Conquest Points will be converted to Honor Points. All Honor Points exceeding the 4,000 point cap will be converted into gold at a rate of 35 silver per point.
  • All existing Valor Points will be converted to Justice Points. You’d want to spend Valor before 4.2 hits if you’re going to convert over the 4k cap.
  • Anything that costs Valor will cost Justice. Anything that costs Conquest will cost Honor. Nothing else changes. If the piece required an item token before, it will require one after. You will still have to down those bosses and win the tokens to purchase those pieces.

Preview on Druid T12

Introducing the new raid content.

(As read on

World of Warcraft patch 4.2 will offer hardy adventurers an opportunity to turn the tide in the Firelands, a huge outdoor raid of the highest difficulty, with 10-person and 25-person normal and Heroic modes. It will be a scorching opportunity to delve into this Elemental Plane, where six unique bosses stand between you and the reinvigorated Ragnaros. The great fire lord’s chamber is shielded by:

Beth’tilac [The Red Widow]
Her fiery webs reach far overhead, daring her adversaries to simultaneously face their fears of both spiders and heights. Only by taking hold of her webs and climbing into her domain yourself will you find a way to thwart her evil designs.

Lord Rhyolith
Heroes face a difficult challenge: attack this massive magma giant’s bulk while forcing him to move against his will among volcanic eruptions that ultimately spell his doom… or yours.

Are you ready to fly the fiery skies? Catch her singed feathers and use them to soar above the inferno, or perish at the whim of this swift firehawk.

The ferocious flamewakers of this Elemental Plane are terrifying enough, but Shannox has brought companions to his side in defense of the Firelands. This mighty hunter will require that you find a way to deal with his blazing pets before he burns you to a crisp.

Baleroc [The Gatekeeper]
Baleroc stands before the gate to Sulfuron Keep, amidst a river of combustion that serves as the Sulfuron moat. The bridge to Ragnaros’s blistering chamber can only be crossed by those who find a way to put an end to this towering elemental monstrosity.

Majordomo Staghelm [Archdruid of the Flame]
Ragnaros’s latest chief lieutenant stands before the door to his master’s chamber in Sulfuron Keep. Majordomo Staghelm’s treasonous efforts will all come to a head before the very seat of his new master.

Defeat his guardians and a memorable battle with the enraged Ragnaros awaits you in his chamber. Ragnaros’s normal and Heroic modes offer two completely different encounters for raiders to conquer.

A tantalizing collection of unique rewards await those who brave the heat, and defeat the lords of the Firelands. With a new raid tier of armor and weapons, three new mounts (including the rare and highly sought flaming Anzu), a slew of new personal and guild achievements, an epic storyline, a grand musical score, and seven unique boss encounters, 4.2 and the Firelands raid will burn an indelible mark in World of Warcraft history.

Occu’thar (Baradin Hold)
This ravenous demon broke free of its cage and gained access to the western wing of the prison, devouring all of the inmates held there. Occu’thar’s gluttony resulted in a body too bloated to escape its environs, effectively turning the prison wing into its new holding cell.
